Francis Ouimet was born 134 years ago, opposite the 17th hole at Brookline. Back then The Country Club was the main building. It's still there all these years later. It was the first country club in the USA and the first golf club in Boston, Massachusetts. It began as a golf club in 1893.

Francis won the 1913 U.S. Open (as an amateur) on September 20, 1913, in an 18-hole playoff at The Country Club. At age 20, he defeated British professionals Harry Vardon and Ted Ray to become the first amateur to win the U.S. Open. It is labelled by many as the "greatest game ever played". It was a good matchup and a great story.

BROOKLINE, MA – Brookline Golf Club (Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course) has announced the appointment of Duncan Smith, a Class A PGA Professional with over 2 decades of coaching experience, as the head of the newly established Brookline Golf Academy.
Returning to his family roots in Massachusetts, Smith will lead the coaching staff for the six-month summer season before returning to his winter base in Florida. This transition marks a significant expansion for the club’s instructional offerings, as Smith brings a wealth of expertise ranging from foundational junior development to advanced performance coaching for elite players.
The Brookline Golf Academy is a new initiative designed to provide comprehensive skill development for golfers of all ages and abilities. While the academy’s coaching staff will offer diverse programming for every demographic, Smith’s leadership ensures a high-caliber curriculum backed by two decades of professional success on the range.
